Give me your thoughts on Hockey!

Posted on: July 7, 2008 12:09 am

Give me your thoughts on the free agency market in the NHL. My beloved Red Wings picked up Marian Hossa and Conklin from Pittsburgh. They also resigned Brad Stuart to a new 4 year contract so he can continue to play next to his partner in crime Kronwall. This years Red Wings should be fun to watch again with the new additions as well as keeping the rest of the team intact.

Also, have any of your players of your favorite teams taken them to salary arbitration? Valeri Fillpula has in the Red Wings camp. I feel he should follow suit and go for a repeat. Surely his $850,000 from last year hasn't been spent.

Just give me any hockey you want,  as this will help me pass the time until football starts and then the NHL!

I can't wait! How about you?

Give me your thoughts on Hockey!

I'm an Avs fan and I am thinking they took a small step backwards. Theodore was a risky proposition any way you look at it, but the Avs did not go out and find a true starting number net minder. Budaj is a good player, but I am not so sure that he is a true number 1 goaltender. I really like the pick up of Darcy Tucker. The Avs needed some grit and he gives that. Marek Svatos went to arbitration and did well. This kid has some great skill, but sports an injury or two a year. The Avs will be back in the playoffs, but the Red Wings are the class of the NHL at this time and no ground was gained in free agency.

Slapshot thanks for the post. My brother is an Avs fan so you can imagine the fun we've had over the years. His thoughts are almost identical to yours on the keeper situation. Budaj has the potential to be a number 1 goaltender but time will tell. Darcy Tucker I feel was a nice pickup to. Great grind player. Hopefully for your sake Svatos will stay injury free. I think the Avs will be in the playoffs again as well. I think they will use this year as the motivation for next year. Remember the Wings run to the Cup was a solid 3 year process. An early exit against Edmonton, then going down to the Ducks in the conference finals last year. This playoffs they came together as a team. I feel their terrible February with all the injuries only made them stronger and better prepared for the playoffs. Franzen was unbelievable. Thanks for the comment on the Wings being the class of the NHL at this time. I agree. Best of luck to you slapshot and the Avs. Thanks again for the post.

Give me your thoughts on Hockey!

ISC I like rooting for The B's in the East. They do need a lethal scorer on one of their top 2 lines. They are just one scorer away along with some key defensive personel (long term) from not being overlooked anymore. I like the grit they showed against the Canadians in the playoffs. There is promise in Boston but it's going to take the current owner changing his ways or start over with a new one and get back to like you put it, "the old days". I wish you the best my friend. Thanks for posting.
